FMCSA Launches Commercial Driver Panel to Speak on CMV Issues

The new panel will provide feedback on issues like driver safety.

The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administrator (FMCSA) announced the launch of a new panel to its Motor Carrier Safety Advisory Committee (MCSAC) on September 18, 2020.

The panel will be made up of about 20 commercial motor vehicle (CMV) drivers from various sectors of the industry, including straight truck drivers and tractor trailer drivers. The drivers involved will provide feedback to FMCSA on important issues that the driving community faces, such as training, safety and driver experience.

The purpose of the panel is to amplify an array of different viewpoints and experiences within the CMV community.

“The Department of Transportation and this Administration believe in listening to our drivers and hearing their concerns directly,” said Wiley Deck, FMCSA Deputy Administrator. “We know that many of the solutions to the challenges we face don’t come from Washington – they come from the hardworking men and women who are behind the wheel all over our nation. This new subcommittee to MCSAC will further help us hear from America’s commercial drivers.”

The creation of this panel follows FMCSA’s May 2020 updates to the hours-of-service rules, which were based on feedback from commercial drivers. For more information on the new MCSAC committee, go to fmcsa.gov.
