New York City's Department of Buildings has announced the date of this year's build safe│live safe Conference -- Friday, May 10. It will be a daylong series of seminars in which department experts discuss industry trends and highlight safe construction operations.
The event will take place during Construction Safety Week (May 6-10), when DOB staffers will visit construction sites to promote safety during the department's annual multilingual Experience is Not Enough campaign.
"Our highest priority is to promote safe work sites and protect the public, a responsibility we take very seriously," said Acting Buildings Commissioner Thomas Fariello. "No building is worth a life, and that’s a belief every person in the development industry should keep in mind whenever they step onto a construction site."
The 2019 conference schedule will be posted soon, according to the event's website. The 2018 conference included presentations on site safety plan requirements of the NYC Building Code and Local Law 81 of 2017; Structural Stability in the NYC Building Code; NYC gas work safety and legislation; code requirements for excavation, interior demolition, and scaffold safety; digital compliance for cranes, hoists, and elevators; and more.
