MSHA Proximity Detection Deadline Nears
Many mine operators already have installed proximity detection systems in accordance with the regulation. MSHA posted a reminder to make sure the rest are in compliance by the deadline.
The federal Mine Safety and Health Administration is reminding underground coal mining operators that their continuous mining machines must be equipped with proximity detection systems by March 16, 2018. MSHA on Jan. 15, 2015, published a final rule (30 CFR §75.1732) requiring underground coal mine operators to equip those machines with proximity detection; full face continuous mining machines are not included in the rule's requirements, however.
