Washington State Offering Two Ag Safety Day Meetings

The events, co-sponsored by L&I and the Governor's Industrial Safety and Health Advisory Board, will feature special training on drug recognition in the workplace, irrigation and trenching hazards, ladder safety, community trauma care, and more.

Washington state's annual Agriculture Safety Day is happening in two Eastern Washington locations this month, following the enthusiastic 2017 turnout, the state's Department of Labor & Industries announced recently. Now in its 14th year, this February event is offered to help meet the specific safety and health training needs of the state's agricultural industry.

The Feb. 7 conference is at the Yakima Convention Center and the Feb. 28 event is at the Wenatchee Convention Center. Registration is open for both.

Agriculture is among the largest industries in the state and has one of the highest injury rates. "Safety and health training helps prevent injuries and can save lives," said Rebecca Llewellyn, L&I conference manager. "We offer something for everybody, and each event includes topics that are important to the local areas. Last year was the first time the conference was held in two locations, and the response was great."

The one-day training contents promote workplace safety and health and are geared to hazards that agricultural employers and workers say are the most important. The events, co-sponsored by L&I and the Governor's Industrial Safety and Health Advisory Board, will feature special training on drug recognition in the workplace, irrigation and trenching hazards, ladder safety, community trauma care, and more. Many of the workshops are presented in English and Spanish.

Online pre-registration is $75 per person or $65 for groups of five or more. Students and apprentices get a discounted rate of only $35. Admission at the door is $85. The registration fee includes the conference and lunch.
