NTSB Sets Meeting on Fatal Bus Crash

The board will vote on the probable cause of the July 2016 crash at a meeting scheduled for Nov. 28 in Washington, D.C. During the meeting, investigators will review two other crashes involving migrant workers – a Nov. 6, 2015, crash in Little Rock, Ark., and a June 18, 2016, accident in Ruther Glen, Va.

The National Transportation Safety Board opened the public docket last week on a fatal July 2016 crash involving a truck and a bus carrying migrant workers. The agency released more than 1,100 pages of factual information on the crash, which occurred near St Marks, Fla., on July 2, 2016, when the bus driver failed to stop at an intersection with a flashing red signal. The bus struck the tractor-trailer.

The bus driver and three passengers died from the collision.

The public docket contains factual information collected by NTSB investigators; opening it marks a transition in the investigative process where the majority of facts needed for the investigation have been gathered and the board can move ahead with analysis of the facts. The analysis, findings, recommendations, and determination of the probable cause of the crash will be voted on at a public board meeting scheduled for Nov. 28 in Washington, D.C.
