Oregon OSHA's 2016 Safety Break Set for May 11

The 13th annual event will raise awareness of workplace safety and health with targeted training, award recognition meetings, and other activities.

The 13th annual Safety Break for Oregon will take place Wednesday, May 11. Oregon OSHA, which coordinates the event, uses it to raise awareness of workplace safety and health with targeted training, award recognition meetings, and other activities. "It's a day to pause and reflect on why workplace safety and health matter. It's a day to turn that reflection into sustained action to prevent on-the-job injury, illness, and death," according to the agency.

Employers throughout Oregon are invited to participate in the voluntary Safety Break. Businesses can decide what activities are most beneficial to their workforce.

"Safety Break is an opportunity for employers to remind their workers, and themselves, about the importance they attach to safety in the workplace," said Michael Wood, Oregon OSHA's administrator. "A safety stand-down such as this provides an opportunity to celebrate past successes, to reflect about the remaining challenges, and to share a renewed commitment for the future."

Companies that sign up online by May 4 to participate in Safety Break 2016 are automatically entered to win one of three $100 gift certificates for a pizza party at their location; winners will be drawn at random from the list of 2016 participating employers. The prizes will be awarded in May 2016 and are furnished by the Oregon SHARP Alliance. To be eligible, a participating company must be an Oregon employer; must sign up on or before May 4; must include a contact person, e-mail address, employer name, and description of Safety Break activities; and must hold a Safety Break event on May 11.
