DOE Cites Fluor B&W Portsmouth, LLC for Violations

The agency has proposed a $243,750 civil penalty against the company, which is responsible for decontamination and decommissioning activities at the Portsmouth Gaseous Diffusion Plant located in Piketon. Ohio.

The U.S. Department of Energy recently issued a Preliminary Notice of Violation to Fluor B&W Portsmouth for alleged violations of the agency's nuclear safety and radiation protection regulations. DOE proposed a $243,750 civil penalty, as well. The company is responsible for decontamination and decommissioning activities at the Portsmouth Gaseous Diffusion Plant located in Piketon, Ohio.

DOE's announcement said the violations are associated with the improper alteration of Radiation Protection documents and other RP violations at the Portsmouth decontamination and decommissioning project that occurred in April 2013. DOE classified the deficiencies as one Severity Level I violation, three Severity Level II violations, and one Severity Level III violation; the notice cites violations in the areas of information requirements, quality improvement, routine testing for operability and work processes, records management, and training.
