SCA Survivor Fashion Show Set for Mall of America

The Sudden Cardiac Arrest Foundation is looking for female SCA survivors to participate in the "Hearts for Fashion Show" being hosted by the American Heart Association and Boston Scientific on Feb. 7. The survivor component will be from 10-11 a.m.

The Sudden Cardiac Arrest Foundation is inviting female sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) survivors who live in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area to participate in a Feb. 7 fashion show at the Mall of America. "We are looking for women who would be willing to put a face on heart disease/sudden cardiac arrest," the foundation stated in a Jan. 6 tweet that asked those who are interested in taking part to send an email to [email protected].

Mary Newman, MS, the foundation's president, said in an email that the "Hearts for Fashion Show" is being hosted by the American Heart Association and Boston Scientific and will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 7, with the survivor component from 10-11 a.m.

"We have heard from a number of survivors who are interested in participating," Newman wrote. "One is Jamie LaLonde, who was actually saved at the mall a few years ago. Here is her story: http://www.sca-aware.org/survivor-stories/saved-at-mall-of-america."

Newman said the foundation is supporting the sponsors' efforts by reaching out to SCA survivors in its network.

The Mall of America® is located in Bloomington, Minn. A major tourist destination, it hosts some 400 events annually.

The foundation is a national community benefit 501(c)(3) organization based in Pittsburgh with the mission of raising awareness and support programs that give ordinary people the power to save a life. It works to raise awareness about prevention and treatment of SCA.
