One Fatality in Gulf Platform Explosion

The operator, Houston-based Fieldwood Energy, reported three other workers were hurt in the Nov. 20 explosion and are being treated at an on-shore medical facility.

One person died and three others were injured in an explosion that occurred Nov. 20 on a platform in the Gulf of Mexico operated by Houston-based Fieldwood Energy. The company reported that the three injured workers are being treated at an on-shore medical facility.

All four workers are employed by a contractor firm, The Houston Chronicle reported.

The federal Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement will investigate the incident and is coordinating with the U.S. Coast Guard during the response. The explosion occurred at West Delta 105 approximately 12 miles off the coast of New Orleans, BSEE reported, adding that "the facility damage was limited to the explosion area and there was no pollution reported."
