NJ Firefighters to Receive New Breathing Apparatuses
Stanhope wins a federal grant of nearly $158,000.
Stanhope volunteer firefighters have been equipped with 19 new self-contained breathing apparatuses, according to a news release. The equipment was provided by an Assistance to Firefighters Grant, or AFG, which is administered by FEMA, of $157,776. Stanhope has 3,548 residents and 40 volunteer firefighters.
The new units will replace units that were at least 10 years old, expensive to repair, and not compliant with National Fire Protection Association criteria. "These new units," said Brian McNeilly, the borough's administrator, in the statement, "provide a much broader field of vision, which is critical. Each of these new units is equipped with a personal alert safety system, which automatically summons assistance."
McNeilly emphasized that this allows the volunteer firefighters, who are also neighbors in the community, to help keep their neighbors safe.
