Red Cross Opens Largest U.S. Disaster Warehouse

The new Disaster Field Supply Center in Arlington, Texas, contains enough supplies to support as many as 100,000 people after disasters nationwide.

The American Red Cross has opened its largest U.S. disaster supplies warehouse in Arlington, Texas, this week. Called a Disaster Field Supply Center, the 174,000-square-foot warehouse contains enough supplies to support as many as 100,000 people after disasters nationwide: cots, blankets, coolers, cooking supplies, and more.

"We couldn't be happier to have this new national warehouse in the center of the Metroplex," said T.D. Smyers, chief executive officer of the American Red Cross North Texas Region. "From this strategic location along a major interstate, Red Cross teams will be able to quickly move supplies whenever and wherever they're needed across America."

There are four other large Disaster Field Supply Centers located in Pennsylvania, Georgia, Missouri, and Nevada. According to ARC's news release, the new Texas facility was made possible because of generous donors, including Grainger, which provided the racks for the warehouse as a part of its commitment to the Annual Disaster Giving Program.

The facility will host blood drives and CPR and first aid courses, and it will be the base for a new Disaster Action Team that will respond to local emergencies.
