HELP Subcommittee Sets Hearing on Patient Safety

Scheduled witnesses for the July 17 hearing include Tejal Gandhi, M.D., MPH , president of the National Patient Safety Foundation.

The U.S. Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions' Subcommittee on Primary Health and Aging will hold a hearing this week on the topic of patient safety. Six experts are listed as witnesses for the panel's 10 a.m. hearing on July 17.

Scheduled witnesses are:

  • Ashish Jha, M.D., MPH , professor of Health Policy and Management, Harvard School of Public Health, Boston
  • Tejal Gandhi, M.D., MPH , president, National Patient Safety Foundation; associate professor of Medicine, Harvard Medical School, Boston
  • Peter Pronovost, M.D., Ph.D., senior vice president for Patient Safety and Quality and director of the Armstrong Institute for Patient Safety and Quality, Johns Hopkins Medicine, Baltimore
  • Joanne Disch, Ph.D., RN , professor ad honorem, University of Minnesota School of Nursing, Minneapolis

Sen. Bernard Sanders, I-Vt., chairs the subcommittee, and Sen. Richard Burr, R-N.C., is its ranking member.
