Airbus to Add Mexico City Training Facility

The airline is already training Volaris pilots in Miami. When the satellite operation in Mexico City opens in 2015, it will be Airbus' first flight training center in Latin America.

Airbus announced June 13 that Volaris, the low-cost Mexican airline that serves Mexico and the United States, has selected its A320 flight simulator training and courses for 500 pilots. The training has begun in Miami and will start in Mexico next year; their agreement includes more than 25,000 flight training hours.

Volaris, which is based in Mexico City and made its inaugural flight March 13, 2006, has ordered 4 Airbus aircraft to date and operates 47 A320 aircraft, according to the aircraft manufacturer’s announcement.

The Mexico City training center will open in 2015 and will be Airbus' first flight training center in Latin America. "Partnering with Airbus to train our pilots locally will allow us to optimize our operating costs, allowing us to pass the savings on to our clients," said Volaris CEO Enrique Beltranena. "The training agreement will offer our crews state-of-the art flight simulator technology in conjunction with experienced Airbus instructors."

Airbus also operates training center in Toulouse, Beijing, and Bangalore.
