Sustainability Talk Highlights Safety 2014 Interest Group Events

Speaker Thomas F. Cecich, elected this year as ASSE's senior vice president, will discuss the business case for workforce sustainability at the International Practice Specialty's June 8 meeting in Orlando.

Among the more than 30 practice specialty and interest group events on the agenda of ASSE's Safety 2014 conference in Orlando, Fla., June 8-11 are wellness walks, a miniature golf outing, breakfast meetings and a brown bag lunch, and lots of evening gatherings with Hors d'oeuvres provided.

The International Practice Specialty's meeting at 6-8 p.m. Monday, June 9, in the Hilton Lake Highland B room is one of the highlights: The listed speaker is Thomas F. Cecich, CSP, CIH, who was elected this year as ASSE's senior vice president and serves as the chairman of the Center for Safety & Health Sustainability. His topic: "If Corporations Are Sustainable, Why Are So Many Workers Dying: The Business Case for Workforce Sustainability."

The Center for Safety & Health Sustainability is a non-profit collaboration of AIHA, ASSE, and IOSH that represents more than 90,000 safety professionals worldwide. Cecich's election puts him third in line for the ASSE presidency, following Patricia M. Ennis, CSP, ARM, and Michael Belcher, CSP. Cecich is president of TFC & Associates in Apex, N.C., and is a clinical assistant professor of environmental health sciences at the Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine.
