FAA and General Aviation Pilots Partner for Weather Safety Campaign

The partnership launches an eight-month national safety campaign.

The Federal Aviation Administration has partnered with the general aviation community to launch an eight-month weather safety campaign titled "Got Weather?" The campaign aims to help pilots prepare for weather issues they may face during the 2014 flying season. The campaign is set to officially launch on May 4 at the Great Alaska Aviation Gathering in Anchorage.

The campaign will feature a new weather topic (such as turbulence, thunderstorms, icing, and crosswinds) each month through December. The topics will be covered through safety seminars, fast facts, quizzes, case studies, and more online materials.

The campaign's partners include the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA), Aircraft Electronics Association (AEA), Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA), FAA FAASTeam, GA Joint Steering Committee, General Aviation Manufacturers Association (GAMA), Helicopter Association International (HAI), and the National Agricultural Aviation Association (NAAA), among others.

"General aviation is a vibrant part of our country's culture and our economy," said U.S. Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx. "But too many lives are lost each year in general aviation crashes related to weather. This campaign will help ensure that our general aviation pilots are prepared in the face of bad weather and are as safe and well-trained as possible."
