OSHA and Chicago Roofing Contractors Form Safety Alliance

The alliance will focus on sharing information about OSHA's emphasis programs, health laws, and standards.

OSHA announced it has formed an alliance with the Chicago Roofing Contractors Association to improve safety at construction sites. The alliance will focus on making construction sites safer by sharing information with Chicago roofers on occupational health and safety laws and standards, as well as the rights and responsibilities of workers.

Angie Loftus, area director for the Chicago North Area Office of OSHA, said he believes the alliance is beneficial because it allows the two entities the ability "to work together to train employers and workers about the unique hazards of the roofing industry, including falls." The two organizations plan on working together to create informational guidelines to distribute to workers and employers. These guidelines aim to educate roofing contractors on the various hazards in their industry. In addition, OSHA personnel will speak at events sponsored by the association.

This partnership comes as part of OSHA's Alliance Program, in which it works with businesses, unions, educational institutions, and trade associations to prevent workplace injuries, fatalities, and illnesses.
