NFPA Board Chooses Association's New President

Jim Pauley, currently senior vice president of external affairs and government relations for Schneider Electric, will assume his new role in July, replacing James M. Shannon.

NFPA announced that its Board of Directors has voted unanimously to name Jim Pauley as the next president of NFPA. Pauley, currently senior vice president of external affairs and government relations for Schneider Electric, and will assume his new role in July, after the NFPA Conference & Expo takes place June 9-12 in Las Vegas.

Pauley's involvement in standards and codes includes having served as chairman of the board for the American National Standards Institute, chairman of NFPA's Standards Council, and chair of the High Performance Building Council for the National Electrical Manufacturers Association. He will succeed James M. Shannon, who has been NFPA's president since 2002.

"I am excited about the opportunity to lead such a terrific organization in a time when there is tremendous opportunity to have even greater impact on fire and other hazards facing all of us," Pauley said in a release posted on the NFPA blog.

"For more than 115 years, NFPA has been a leader in fire, life, and electrical safety through codes and standards development, research, training, and education. This appointment ensures the continued pursuit of the critical mission of NFPA and positions the association to address the challenges of our times," said Philip C. Stittleburg, the board's chairman of the board. "Jim is an experienced leader and very knowledgeable on many of the issues important to NFPA."

Pauley has worked for Schneider Electric since 1985, when he started as an application engineer. He has a B.S. degree in engineering from the University of Kentucky.
