OSHA Renews Partnership with Key Players in Electrical Industry

The partnership is aimed at reducing worker deaths and injuries

According to a press release from OSHA, the organization recently renewed a national strategic partnership with workers, employers and other professionals in the electrical transmission and distribution industry. The partnership aims to reduce injuries, illnesses and death among electrical workers and linesmen.

The partnership includes ten of the largest electrical transmission and distribution contractors in the country, as well as an electrical industry labor union and two trade associations. According to the press release, the partnership has noticeably reduced injuries, illnesses and fatalities among those in the electrical industry since its inception in 2004. In 2004, there were 11 fatalities, while there was just one in 2013.

The partnership has instituted several best practices for dealing with hazards, including fall protection, using insulating protective equipment, implementing safety checks and training over 33,000 workers and supervisors on electrical industry courses. Members of the partnership include: Asplundh Tree Expert Co., Davis H. Elliot Co. Inc., Henkels and McCoy Inc., MasTec Inc., MDU Construction Services Group Inc., Michels Corp., MYR Group Inc., PLH Group, Pike Electric LLC, Quanta Services Inc., International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Edison Electric Institute and the National Electrical Contractors Association
