OSHA Wants Comments on Potential PSM Changes

Updating the process safety management standard and several others will allow the agency to respond to the executive order responding to the explosion in West, Texas.

OSHA is asking for public comments on potential revisions to its Process Safety Management standard and several others, and on other policy options to prevent major chemical incidents. The request is its response to executive order 13650, which asked several federal agencies to improve chemical facility safety and security and was itself a response to the April 2013 ammonium nitrate explosion in West, Texas.

Besides the PSM standard, OSHA seeks comments on potential updates to its Explosives and Blasting Agents, Flammable Liquids, and Spray Finishing standards and on PSM enforcement policies.

Once the request is be published in the Federal Register, the public will have 90 days to submit written comments. For more information, visit www.osha.gov/chemicalexecutiveorder/index.html.
