New Report Shows 1.1 Million Britons Suffer From a Work-Related Illness

The new report shows which jobs have the highest risk of death, as well as numerous other workplace health and safety trends

Health and Safety Executive (HSE) in England released a set of data that shows how workers have fared in health and safety over the last year. In addition to showing that 1.1 million citizens suffered from a workplace related illness, the study also found various other statistics from 2012/2013.

In the last year, 148 workers were killed at work, 78,000 injuries occurred at work (and were reported under RIDDOR) and over 175,000 7-day+ absences due to injuries occurred. Furthermore, 27 million working days were lost due to work-related illness and injury and workplace injuries and health cost society around £13.8 billion

According to The Guardian, the most dangerous jobs cited were those in construction, agriculture, waste and recycling, which accounted for 39, 29 and 10 fatalities, respectively. In addition, there were 13,000 deaths that could be attributed to a work-related disease.
