Third 2013 Recall Announced by Garden Fresh Foods

This one involves approximately 103,080 additional pounds of ready-to-eat chicken and ham products because of possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination.

For the third time this year, Garden Fresh Foods, based in Milwaukee, has recalled some of its food products. The company is recalling approximately 103,080 additional pounds of ready-to-eat chicken and ham products because of possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination, USDA's Food Safety and Inspection Service announced Oct. 25. The company previously recalled 25,748 pounds of similar products on Sept. 25 and Oct. 17.

The recalled products have the establishment number "EST. 17256" or "Est. P-17256" inside the USDA mark of inspection, and were distributed to retail and food service establishments nationwide. "Although product included in this recall may be expired, FSIS is concerned that some product may be frozen in consumer or retail freezers," the agency announced.

FSIS investigated the plant after the first recall. "Microbial testing and other findings as part of the food safety assessment indicated that additional product may have been contaminated due to harborage of Listeria monocytogenes within the facility. The products included in the expanded recall were produced between Sept. 6 and Oct. 10, 2013. FSIS and the company have not received reports of illnesses due to consumption of these products. Anyone concerned about an illness should contact a healthcare provider," according to the agency.
