Amish Factory Receives $4,000 in Fines from IOSHA

The factory is cited for the fines after an investigation prompted by a 15-year-old worker who lost an arm from a woodworking machine.

After a 15-year-old girl lost an arm ina woodworking machine at an Amish pallet factory several months ago, Indiana OSHA investigated the factory, Timberline Crating. IOSHA has issued more than $4,000 fines to the company for violating safety regulations.

The factory has been cited for violating eight serious violations, including not providing suitable guards for rotating cutters, no noise monitoring for employees, not enough protective equipment, no access to eyewash stations and chemical showers, no hazard communication program in place, and more, according to Wish TV.

In addition to the OSHA violations, the factory allegedly violated 12 child labor laws because seven children were working in the factory.
