NSC Honors Four Chapters, Nine Safe Drivers

The National Awards Celebration was held during the 2013 National Safety Congress & Expo this week.

CHICAGO – The National Safety Council hosted this year’s National Awards Celebration at the 2013 National Safety Congress & Expo, honoring four of its chapters, its 2013 Distinguished Service to Safety Award recipients, its 2013 Rising Stars of Safety, and nine drivers – including four employed by the U.S. Postal Service.

The Honor Chapter Award, which recognizes an NSC chapter's outstanding contributions to making the NSC statement of leadership, mission, and vision a reality, went to the Chesapeake Region Safety Council, the Safety and Health Council of Northern New England, and the South Carolina Chapter. The 2013 President's Chapter Award was presented for the first time to the Iowa-Illinois Safety Council. A total of 43 companies and organizations received Occupational Awards in recognition of their safety achievements and implementation of effective safety policies and procedures.

The drivers received the Joseph M. Kaplan Safe Driver of the Year Award for their total driving record, including miles and years driven without a preventable crash. The nine honorees are Bobby Brown and Roberto Flores, both with UPS Freight; Robert Chace and I. Raymond Miller, both with the Shaw Regional Distribution Center; Michael Chambers, Landstar Ranger; Hercules Johnson, United States Postal Service Capital Metro Area; Nicalas Ladao, United States Postal Service Pacific Area; Barbara Lardi, United States Postal Service Great Lakes Area; and James J. Zerkowski, United States Postal Service Eastern Area.
