Canadian Train Derailment Causes Oil Leak

This is the second derailment of a Canadian Pacific train in a week.

The derailment of a second Canadian train in a week has caused an oil leak in northern Ontario. A team from the Transportation Safety Board of Canada has been deployed to the site where 22 cars of the Canadian Pacific freight train were derailed.

One of the cars is leaking crude oil, but does not pose an immediate threat to the community of White River. These cars can carry anywhere from 500 to 700 barrels of oil, an increasingly popular method of transport due to the shortage of pipeline capacity in the country.

Last Wednesday, a Canadian Pacific derailment caused a leak of 350 barrels of crude oil, nearly 15,000 gallons, onto frozen ground in Minnesota.
