NIH Leading 2012 Health Disparities Summit

CDC, DOL, FDA, and more than a dozen other agencies are participating in the Oct. 31-Nov. 2 event.

NIH is the lead agency for the 2012 Science of Eliminating Health Disparities Summit, which will take place Oct. 31 through Nov. 2 at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center in National Harbor, Md. A long list of federal departments and agencies will participate, including the Food and Drug Administration, Agency for Healthcare Quality and Research, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Health Resources and Services Administration, Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration; Indian Health Service, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, Administration for Children and Families, Office of the Assistant Secretary for Health, Office of Minority Health, Office of the Surgeon General, and Office of Global Affairs from within HHS and also EPA and the U.S. Departments of State, Defense, Agriculture, Housing and Urban Development, Transportation, Veterans Affairs, Education, Labor, and Justice, plus grantees, constituents, and partners.

The meeting will feature more than 100 sessions on topics including asthma, obesity, diabetes, kidney disease, stroke, alcohol-related health disparities, tobacco use, and occupational health disparities. The theme is "Building a Healthier Global Society: Integrating Science, Practice, and Policy."
