A new report from the World Health Organization discusses the public health challenges associated with mass gatherings by examining British health authorities' efforts to prepare their health system for potential risks during the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, which will continue until Aug. 12.

The report discusses preparations for disease outbreaks, disasters, and even environmental emergencies.

England's National Health Service is also offering tips and online resources to help visitors. NHS explains that visitors should call 999 if they need an ambulance; guidance for filling a prescription and obtaining other services is posted at http://www.nhs.uk/2012/Pages/health-information-london-olympics.aspx. Fees apply for many services, including dental treatment and hospital treatment for non-UK residents.
