ASSE Launches New Safety, Health Online Resource

The goal of the resource is to provide competency models, professional guidance, best practices, and policies and procedures to help promote professional growth.

The American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) recently unveiled a new “Safety, Health and Environmental Body of Knowledge” online database (BOK). The tool is a compilation of occupational safety, health, and environmental (SH&E) information in one searchable, interactive online database geared to provide safety professionals, businesses, and communities the information they need when it comes to SH&E.

ASSE President Terrie S. Norris, CSP, noted that BOK contains papers, presentations, videos, and podcasts from ASSE professional development conference proceedings, practice specialty newsletter articles, ASSE webinars, and other sources.

“One of ASSE’s goals is to be the recognized source of occupational safety, health, and environmental knowledge and resources and to raise the bar on the practice of safety through knowledge sharing,” Norris said. “This is only the beginning. The BOK will offer new features as technology evolves. Its value and resources will continue to grow as our members create new materials and as new content is added.”

Norris noted that ASSE members and practitioners are invited to contribute to the project and its information database.

Currently, there is no cost to ASSE members for BOK and non-members have limited free access. The goal of BOK is to provide competency models, professional guidance, best practices, and policies and procedures aimed at supporting the mission and vision for users’ companies and to help SH&E professionals continue their professional growth.
