SHRM Accepts Penn State's Online Master's Program

The online Master of Professional Studies in Human Resources and Employment Relations program is now an educational option for the members of the Society for Human Resource Management, the university announced Dec. 10.

Penn State announced Dec. 10 that its online Master of Professional Studies in Human Resources and Employment Relations program has been accepted by the Society for Human Resource Management as an educational option for its members. The program is delivered through Penn State World Campus with four areas of concentration: staffing, training, and development; labor and collective bargaining; employment and labor law; and benefits and compensation.

The program will allow HR professionals to remain on the job while studying for a degree that will advance their careers. "SHRM's Guidelines are based on rigorous research studies that have helped define HR as a profession and have established clear expectations and standards for educational programs," said Tom Hogan, professor of practice and manager of online programs for the Department of Labor Studies and Employment Relations. He directed the submission process.

"SHRM is the leading professional organization in the field of human resources and employment management," said Paul Clark, head and professor of the university's Department of Labor Studies and Employment Relations. "They set the standards for certification in these areas. Their review and approval of Penn State's online Master of Professional Studies in HRER program is an endorsement of both the quality of the program and the thoroughness of the curriculum."

Penn State World Campus specializes in adult online education. Founded in 1998, it delivers more than 70 of Penn State's most highly regarded graduate, undergraduate, and professional education programs.
