Top-Notch Responder PPE Conference Coming Next Week
Two units of the federal Technical Support Working Group are hosting PPE Conference 2010 in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Nov. 30-Dec. 3. TSWG is the interagency R&D anti-terrorism program.
International experts from Japan, the Netherlands, and the Czech Republic will join U.S. officials, firefighters, researchers, NIOSH experts at a conference next week devoted to emergency responders' PPE. The Fort Lauderdale, Fla., conference is organized by the Chemical Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear Countermeasures and the Personnel Protection units within the federal Technical Support Working Group, which is the interagency R&D anti-terrorism program.
PPE Conference 2010 will take place Nov. 30-Dec. 3 at the Marriott Harbor Beach. Speakers listed on the program include Jim Shannon, president of the National Fire Protection Association; Dr. Emiel Den Hartog of the Dutch research company TNO's Defense, Security and Safety unit; Dr. Nina Turner, a researcher at NIOSH's National Personal Protective Technology Laboratory; Mark Mordecai, Globe Manufacturing Company's director of product development; and Anthoney Shawn Deaton, special projects director at North Carolina State University's Textile Protection and Comfort Center (T-PACC).
Topics to be addressed during the event include heat stress solutions, hydration monitoring, cooling, protection factors, electronics that track firefighters' location during an event, helmet design, blast modeling, body armor, and gloves. An expo is open Dec. 1-2.
