The International Apparel Federation and two allied organizations have organized a conference Tuesday in Paris about product safety and chemical safety regulations in the United States and the European Union, while, outside, the big Texworld 2010 conference takes place.

The seminar will cover the latest developments and regulations, offering what IAF describes as "a perfect opportunity for American apparel companies doing business in Europe and European companies working in the U.S. market to get a high-level view and update." The seminar was organized by IAF in cooperation with the American Apparel and Footwear Association and MODINT, the Dutch trade association for fashion and interior textiles.

IAF President Vassilis Masselos is scheduled to welcome attendees, with IAF Secretary General Han J.A. Bekke then moderating a panel discussion on EU product safety and chemical management regulatory developments. The U.S. product safety and chemical management regulatory developments presentation will be made by Stephen E. Lamar, executive vice president of AAFA, which has a large Product Safety Council. Speaking later will be John Eapen, vice president, Environmental Health & Safety for industrial yarn and sewing thread manufacturer American & Efird Inc., who chairs the AAFA Environmental Committee.

Presentations about restricted substances, testing, and how to implement a chemical management program are scheduled to take place after lunch.

AAFA's Apparel and Footwear Product Safety Standards Matrix -- a chart illustrating the various product safety regulations applying to both types of products -- is available here.
