ASSE Forms Agricultural and Utilities Branches

The American Society of Safety Engineers announced Monday it has formed two new practice specialty branches: the Agricultural Branch, which is part of ASSE's Environmental Practice Specialty, and the Utilities Branch, part of the Construction Practice Specialty. The society cited growth and interest in these sectors' safety for launching them.
Professionals who are members of the Agricultural Branch will have this new vehicle to network about and work on safety issues of agricultural production operations of any size, from chemical use to transportation and farm safety.
The Utilities Branch will address EHS issues in solar and wind power generation, production and distribution of natural gas, water and wastewater, public works, telecommunications, and other areas. Current Construction Practice Specialty Administrator Michael Hayslip, P.E., CSP, executive director of the Voluntary Protection Program Association for Construction, will chair the Utilities Branch until new branch officers are chosen. Likewise, current Environmental Practice Specialty Administrator Judy Freeman will chair the Agricultural Branch pending the selection of its officers.
