10-Year Air Traffic Controller Training Contract Awarded
The Federal Aviation Administration has awarded a $437 million, 10-year contract to Raytheon for support all of the agency's training of air traffic controllers. This means Raytheon will be involved in controller training from initial hire to retirement.
"This is a performance-based contract that is designed to allow us to train controllers better, faster, and cheaper," said Robert A. Sturgell, FAA's acting administrator. "It holds Raytheon accountable for meeting our stringent training requirements and offers incentives for improving the quality of training while lowering the overall time and cost." The contract replaces separate contracts to support initial training at the FAA Academy in Oklahoma City and to support ongoing training in air traffic facilities nationwide.
FAA has the flexibility to update the training as technology, aviation procedures, and operations change. The agency remains responsible for managing the overall training program and recruiting and hiring controllers.
