IAQA Welcomes New Board Members

The Indoor Air Quality Association (IAQA) installed newly elected directors and officers at its 11th Annual Meeting & Exposition held last week in Tampa, Fla. Each year, IAQA members elect three directors to serve three-year terms of service on the association's board.

The newly elected directors include Kent Rawhouser, WLS, CMRS (A&J Specialty Services Inc., De Forest, Wis.) and Derrick Denis, CIEC, CIAQP (Clark Seif Clark Inc., Tempe, Ariz.). Re-elected to serve a second term as director was Andrew C. Ask, P.E. (Andrew C. Ask, P.E., Consulting Engineer, Cape Coral, Fla.).

IAQA officers are elected by the board of directors for one-year terms. Ask was elected IAQA president. Carl Grimes, CIEC (Healthy Habitats LLC, Denver) was elected IAQA first vice president. Elected to IAQA's two vice-president positions were Ian Cull, P.E., CIEC, CMC (Indoor Sciences Inc., Chicago) and Joseph Hughes, Jr., CIEC, CMRS (IAQ Training Institute, Central City, Pa.). Wane A. Baker, P.E., CIH (Michaels Engineering, La Crosse, Wis.) was elected IAQA treasurer and Glenn Fellman (Indoor Environment Communications, Rockville, Md.) was elected IAQA secretary.

At the event, IAQA also paid tribute to outgoing directors Larry Hartman, CIEC (Washington Mutual, Irvine, Calif.) and Thomas Yacobellis, CIEC, CMRS, ASCS (DUCTZ Air Duct Cleaning, Dunedin, Fla.). Special appreciation was also expressed to outgoing IAQA president Yacobellis, who remains an ex-officio member of the IAQA board as immediate past president.

In addition, IAQA has already issued a call for papers for its 12th Annual Meeting, which takes place Feb. 24-26, 2009 and will combine exposition halls with the Air Conditioning Contractors of America (ACCA) during its 41st Annual Meeting for the largest Indoor Air Expo ever held.

Attendees for either event will have opportunities to participate in both conventions as IAQA and ACCA members will come together each day for networking, meals, and social events.

IAQA program topics are diverse, but presentations focused on the following topics are particularly desired: building science, IAQ investigations, green building programs, environmental restoration and remediation, microbial issues, air cleaning, asthma and allergies, and medical consequences of exposure to indoor contaminants.

Paper submissions for the IAQA expo are due by July 31, 2008. Persons interested in giving technical presentations must submit an abstract no more than 400 words in length that gives the title of the presentation and a brief description of its contents. Submittals must also include the speaker's biography and must distinguish whether the presentation could be 45, 60, or 90 minutes in length. IAQA will make final selections by Sept. 1, 2008 and a technical program will be published shortly thereafter. Submittals may be sent to [email protected] or by fax to 301-231-8321.
