On Oct. 25-26, 2017, one day before the National Academy of Construction Annual Conference, the NAC Strategic Planning and Safety Committees are co-sponsoring a one day Electrical Safety in Construction Workshop, "Goal Zero . . . Preventing Electrical Safety Mishaps," in partnership with the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Electrical Safety Workshop (ESW). This workshop will address one of the most serious construction industry issues: a high percentage of electrically related deaths and injuries.
During the past 20 years, more than 50 percent of the industry's fatalities have been related to electricity. All of these injuries and deaths are 100 percent preventable. Electrical injuries are very unforgiving, and the high fatality rates ruin families for a generation. These injuries cost owners and contractors millions in lost productivity and legal costs.
The first afternoon will feature leaders who are experts in new electrical safety techniques and technologies. There will be opportunities to question them extensively. The following morning will address how society's megatrends can affect companies' ability to address these issues.
The location is the Washington Marriott Georgetown, 1221 22nd St. NW, Washington, DC 20037, phone 202-872-1500.
