Safety Equipment Every Office Should Have

No matter the size of your company, ensuring your employees are safe should be your first priority. Once you implement a few foolproof safety measures, your office should be safe from a number of unfortunate events that can arise from accidents or natural disasters.

You can always buy ready-made emergency equipment, but it is better to customize and make your own kits that directly cater to your concerns:

1. First Aid Kit
First aid kits are regarded as essential features in any office as they are an important first line of defense that can provide immediate help in most medical emergencies. A typical kit may consist of items like bandage, gauze, ointment, or antiseptic. Depending on your line of work, you can always customize what is in your kit. For example, if you are at a warehouse that deals with alkaline solutions, make sure you have acid-based liquids such as vinegar concentrate and witch hazel to treat and soothe the skin.

2. Biohazard Kit
A biohazard kit is equipped with materials required to dispose of waste that is considered to be dangerous or contagious. As there are different kinds of biohazardous waste, there are different types of biohazard kits. For example, there are biohazard kits that are designed to specifically cater to bloodborne pathogen/body fluid cleanup. So, to prevent any biohazard-related emergencies at work, it is important to take note of the materials that are in your office and choose a kit that would best protect your office.

3. Fire Extinguisher
Clear out small, manageable fires with fire extinguishers. Make sure you have one on every office floor and that they are visible and easily accessible. It is good to note that there are different types of fire extinguishers that deal with different types of fires. For example, class A fire extinguishers deal with wood or plastic related fires, whereas class B fires attend to flammable liquids such as gasoline and oil. Make sure your employees know where the fire extinguisher is and that they understand how to use a fire extinguisher in the event of an emergency.

To run a successful and secure business, it is important to make sure you operate with caution. At the end of the day, the better prepared you are, the safer your business will be.
