The Commission on Health and Safety and Workers' Compensation (CHSWC), part of the California Department of Industrial Relations (DIR), has announced May as Safe Jobs for Youth Month. The annual public awareness campaign promotes workplace safety for teen workers across California.
Supported by the California Partnership for Young Worker Health and Safety, the initiative is administered by CHSWC and coordinated by the Labor Occupational Health Program at the University of California, Berkeley. The campaign provides outreach tools including posters, work permit quizzes, fact sheets, educator resource kits, and a mobile app—all available at YoungWorkers.org.
The campaign emphasizes collaboration among youth, employers, families, and communities to reduce injuries on the job. It also raises awareness about the rights and protections young workers have under California law.
CHSWC continues its broader mandate to review and improve the state’s workers’ compensation system and workplace injury prevention programs, comparing best practices from across the U.S. and recommending updates to legislation and policy.
