OSHA Forms an Alliance with Two Maine Organizations to Promote Worker Safety

The Maine brewing industry is continuing to expand; it’s a chance to spread the word about safety in growing workplaces.

OSHA, the Maine Department of Labor Workplace Safety and Health Division (Safety Works!) and the Maine Brewer’s Guild formed an alliance to promote worker health and safety.

The alliance is meant to find ways to keep workers in the Maine brewing industry safe. According to a press release, the alliance partners will introduce lockout/tagout, hazard communication, powered industrial trucks, permit required confined spaces, electrical walking-working surfaces as well as PPE.

“Craft brewing is a growing industry in Maine. This alliance is an opportunity to share information, training resources and best safety practices to prevent workplace hazards and promote safety in the industry,” said OSHA Area Director David McGuan in Augusta, Maine.

The Maine Brewers’ Guild is a nonprofit organization representing more than 150 breweries across the state. The OSHA Alliance Program was signed by the parties on April 7, 2021. Besides these companies committed to their workers’ safety, the alliance tries to reach targeted audiences in high-hazard work environments giving them better access to proper tools and information.

“Maine is a national leader in the brewing industry, and we're committed to attracting and retaining the best brewing talent our country has to offer. Safe workplaces are better places to work, and so establishing this voluntary alliance was an easy decision,” said Maine Brewers' Guild Executive Director Sean Sullivan.

SafetyWorks! in Maine, as well as OSHA, promote safe and healthful workplaces for employees.
