Kentucky Construction Company Receives Governor's Award

Trace Creek Construction, Inc. in Vanceburg, Ky., received a Governor's Safety and Health Award this month.

Kentucky Labor Cabinet Deputy Secretary Mike Nemes visited Trace Creek Construction, Inc. in Vanceburg, Ky., on Aug. 9 to present a Governor's Safety and Health Award to the company. The backdrop to the presentation was the company's current multi-million project, Central Elementary School, in Vanceburg.

"On behalf of Governor Bevin and the Labor Cabinet, I want to congratulate Trace Creek Construction on this remarkable achievement," Labor Secretary David A. Dickerson said. "Promoting workplace safety across the Commonwealth is our number one priority, and the people and processes in place at Trace Creek Construction make it easy to showcase their success as an example for other businesses to follow."

Trace Creek Construction, Inc. performs construction-related services from its office in Lewis County, Kentucky. It has been in business for 25 years and employs 21 people. "Safety is our first thought and priority," said Trace Creek founder and CEO Sam Howard. "If a construction project has a lost-time injury accident prior to completion, it is not a successful project. It takes all team members to have 100 percent commitment to safety for us to receive this recognition."

"I am very proud of our focus on safety," added David West, president of Trace Creek Construction. "We appreciate the governor recognizing companies that put safety as a top priority."

The Kentucky Labor Cabinet presents the Governor's Safety and Health Award to highlight outstanding safety and health performance in Kentucky's workplaces. A business may qualify for the award if its employees achieve a required number of hours worked without experiencing a lost-time injury or illness; the required number of hours depends on the number of employees.
