NIOSH Publishes Research Agenda for Health Care and Social Assistance

Comments are due by Aug. 20 on the document. It outlines suggested research work to improve both health care workers' and their patients' safety, prevent workplace violence in health care settings, and improve infection control in health care workplaces, as well as determine the impact of strategies and technologies for preventing sharps injuries.

NIOSH has published the draft National Occupational Research Agenda for Healthcare and Social Assistance and is seeking public comments on it. Comments are due by Aug. 20.

The draft agenda is intended to identify the research, information, and actions most urgently needed to prevent occupational injuries in those industries and to provide a vehicle for stakeholders to describe the most relevant issues, gaps, and safety and health needs for them. Each NORA research agenda is meant to guide or promote high priority research efforts on a national level.

It outlines suggested research work to improve both health care workers' and their patients' safety, prevent workplace violence in health care settings, and improve infection control in health care workplaces, as well as determine the impact of strategies and technologies for preventing sharps injuries. Other objectives in the document involve safe patient handling, preventing slips and falls, and preventing exposures to hazardous drugs and chemicals in health care, veterinary care, home care, daycare, and other social services.
