Night-Out Activities Feature Orioles, Sharks, Other Wildlife

ASSE invites attendees of Safety 2010 to experience two of Baltimore's most popular attractions, starring very different types of performers. Both events, sponsored by the society's Chesapeake Chapter, are located very near the PDC & Expo's location in the convention center.

The first event, "A Night Out at Camden Yards," happens Saturday, June 12, and features a night of major league baseball watching as the home-team Baltimore Orioles take on the New York Mets. Oriole Park at Camden Yards has been described as one of the most beautiful and exciting ballparks in the country. The stadium is located in the heart of Baltimore and is within walking distance of the convention center, Inner Harbor, and the conference hotels. ASSE notes that almost every game is a sellout and encourages attendees to sign up early. The $45 registration includes $35 admission to the ballpark and all-you-can-eat ballpark food and non-alcoholic beverages through the 7th inning., plus a $10 donation to the host ASSE chapter. Game time is 7:05 p.m.

Then, on Monday, June 14, attendees, guests, and family members are invited to ASSE's "Exclusive Night Out at the National Aquarium." The event, happening from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m., is a unique opportunity for leisurely enjoying the aquarium's exhibits in a relaxed atmosphere without the hustle and bustle of a large crowd. Attractions will include the "Wings in the Water" feeding demonstration, in which divers feed the largest collection of stingrays in the United States while a narrator explains the animal behavior, and "The Atlantic Coral Reef" exhibit, which contains thousands of colorful tropical fish and one of the largest collections of sharks. Also enjoy the one-of-a kind "Animal Planet Australia Wild Extremes" habitat where a flash of color might reveal lizards skittering across the ground, flying foxes leaping in the trees, or a crocodile gliding into a pond. The $60 registration ($45 for children 8-12) includes admission to the aquarium and ‘hors d’oeuvres’. A cash bar will also be available.
