ABIH Celebrating 50th Anniversary
DENVER -- Almost 10,000 professionals have earned the Certified Industrial Hygienist certification since AIHA and ACGIH founded the American Board of Industrial Hygiene in 1960. ABIH held a forum on Monday at AIHce to answer questions about certification, programs, and the board's direction. Another session on Wednesday will explain the requirements to sit for the CIH exam, which is given twice per year. June 1 is the deadline for 2005-2009 CM cycle Worksheets to be submitted and cleared. Beginning Sept. 1, CM worksheets fo the 2006-2010 cycle may be submitted to ABIH.
Carla, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. delivered this morning's keynote. He was really good, talking about America having enough solar energy and wind energy to power our entire energy needs, but not having the smart grid in place yet to enable wind and solar power to be delivered from the places where they are abundant to the big energy markets, such as NYC. US also has a lot of untapped geothermal, he said.
He spoke for 90 minutes, said he's sued BP over the Gulf spill on behalf of fishermen and some towns along the gulf. He talked about solar thermal plants a company named Bright Source (haven't checked spelling or URL) that is funded by a big green energy venture capital fund on which he's a board member is building. And he said the fund, which I believe is named Vantage Group, has a contract with the govt of Israel to give every driver there an electric car and already is installing plugs and battery changing equipment at gas stations there. Also has similar deals with Denmark and Australia and 30 other nations, as well as the state of Hawaii.
