Medical Distributor Rewarded for Injecting Safety into Management System
Hospira Distribution Center in King of Prussia, Pa., has received certification at the star, or highest, level in OSHA’s Voluntary Protection Programs for achievements in employee safety and health.
The company, which distributes specialty injectable pharmaceutical solutions and medical supplies to regional customers, has maintained an injury and illness rate 54 percent below the industry average for three years.
“Hospira Distribution Center has demonstrated excellence in employee safety and health,” said Jean Kulp, OSHA’s area director in Allentown, Pa. “The star designation reflects this site’s dedication to ensuring a safe and healthful workplace for employees.”
OSHA’s recognition programs include the VPP for employers and employees who have implemented what the agency considers exemplary workplace safety and health management systems. In VPP, management, labor, and OSHA work cooperatively and proactively to prevent injuries, illnesses, and workplace hazards. As part of attaining VPP status, employers must demonstrate management commitment to the safety and health of their employees and actively involve employees in the safety and health management system.
