Construction Safety Council Celebrates 20th Conference & Expo Anniversary

The Construction Safety Council kicks off its 20th annual Construction Safety Conference today at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, Ill. To celebrate the event’s two-decade anniversary and its designation as the largest construction-specific safety conference held in the United States, an awards banquet will be take place tomorrow, Feb. 17, during lunch. The program is designed to recognize outstanding efforts in construction safety and health and proactive contractors who put training their employees as the number-one priority.

Construction Safety Center Awards will include those for outstanding training efforts, a hero and survivor award for a life saved after training received, and a “Raising the Bar” award sponsored by Construction Risk Management. Other awards will include the Robert M. Farrell Award given out by the Construction Safety Association, the John Maronic Memorial Federal Safety and Health Professional Award, and an induction of an individual to the Safety and Health Hall of Fame. Also, several scholarships will be given out to students enrolled in construction safety programs.

NIOSH Director John Howard, M.D., MPH, JD, LLM, who also serves as the coordinator of the Department of Health and Human Service’s World Trade Center Health Programs, will deliver the event’s keynote address.

CSC says its annual conference brings together a diverse audience, including construction owners/users, contractors, researchers, government officials, safety and health professionals, unions, and workers to share information and ideas about effective safety and health interventions and how to move best practices from inception to practical implementation. More than 60 sessions will be offered throughout the event’s three days, including sessions on fall protection, power line safety, worker’s compensation issues, electrical safety, industrial hygiene issues, and work zone safety. In addition, more than 80 exhibitors will be on hand today and tomorrow to demonstrate the latest innovations in safety and health products and services.
