Third Annual Hospitals Against Violence Friday Set for June 7

Ohio BWC Dropping Coverage of Oxycontin

The Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation will no longer pay for Oxycontin or generic sustained-release oxycodone tablets for workers who suffer on-the-job injuries on or after June 1, 2019. Injured workers who are currently on those medications will have until Dec. 31 to discontinue their use or switch to a different product on the state agency's formulary.

OSHA Cites Florida Farm After Ammonia Leak Hurts Worker

OSHA cited the farm for failing to develop procedures for notifying employees of emergencies and evacuation, and a written emergency response plan; and failing to provide safety and health training to employees operating ammonia refrigeration systems and ensure that employees required to respond to ammonia releases were provided a full-face respirator fit test.



PG&E Expanding Wildfire Detection Network

By the end of 2019, PG&E plans to have at least 600 weather stations and 100 high-definition cameras in high fire-threat areas.

Former Bus Company President Sentenced in Fraud Case

Xiu Cheng Zheng (Ah Sen), former president and officer of multiple bus companies, was sentenced May 28 in U.S. District Court in Harrisburg, Pa., to 10 months' imprisonment, 12 months' supervised release, $600 in fines and fees, and to forfeit $1,492,633.

OSHA in Safety Partnership at Montana Hospital Project

The goal of the partnership is to prevent injuries and exposure to hazards during construction of the 110,500-square-foot addition. The project includes three buildings, an intensive care unit, a patient care tower, and administrative departments.

AMA Opioid Task Force Issues New Recommendations

"We need help from policy makers to ensure that more people have access to treatment. Physicians are responding to the epidemic and we are seeing results: a reduction in opioid prescribing of 33 percent since 2013, increased use of prescription drug monitoring programs, enhanced education, and greater co-prescribing of naloxone," said AMA President-elect Dr. Patrice A. Harris, who is the task force's chair. "But we cannot enforce parity laws or eliminate administrative barriers without the help of state and federal authorities, and that's what is limiting treatment now."

FAA Reports 312 Boeing Planes May Contain Suspect Parts

The FAA's June 2 statement says that, following an investigation conducted by Boeing and the FAA Certificate Management Office, the FAA has determined that up to 148 parts manufactured by a Boeing sub-tier supplier are affected.

OSHA Heavily Fines Tire Manufacturer

OSHA launched the follow-up inspection of the tire manufacturer after the agency did not receive abatement documents regarding a June 2017 inspection and citations. OSHA has now placed Kumho Tire Georgia Inc. in its Severe Violator Enforcement Program.
