Federal workplace safety officials have cited a transformer manufacturer more than $986,000 for failing to correct previously identified hazards and repeatedly exposing employees to dangerous conditions, the U.S. Department of Labor announced.
Inspectors with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration found in June 2025 that Virginia Transformer Corp. continued to expose workers to crane hazards similar to those identified in two 2024 inspections, including equipment with faulty brakes and switches used to move heavy loads.
OSHA issued 53 serious and repeat violations, citing the company for failing to guard machinery, exposing workers to fall hazards and not providing required personal protective equipment. The agency proposed $986,888 in penalties.
“Employers have a responsibility to correct hazards that put workers at risk,” OSHA officials said, noting the company had been warned previously about similar conditions.
Virginia Transformer Corp. has 15 business days from receipt of the citations to comply, request an informal conference with OSHA or contest the findings before the Occupational Safety and Health Review Commission.
