NFPA Marks Fire Prevention Week with Safety Messaging and Events

Communities across the country are gearing up for Fire Prevention Week, taking place October 5–11, 2025, with safety drills, education campaigns, and resources to strengthen fire preparedness at home and in the workplace.

NFPA Marks Fire Prevention Week with Safety Messaging and Events
Each October, the National Fire Protection Association leads the nation in observing Fire Prevention Week, a campaign dedicated to educating the public about fire safety and prevention strategies. The week commemorates the Great Chicago Fire of 1871, which began on October 8 and caused widespread destruction.

This year’s events will feature Daily Fire Safety Tips, virtual and in-person outreach, and partnerships with schools, municipalities, and local fire departments. The NFPA encourages communities to adopt the theme, conduct safety drills, and review home and workplace fire escape plans.

Fire Prevention Week campaigns often focus on smoke alarms, escape planning, and educating children and adults alike about preventing home fires. NFPA provides resources, downloadable materials, and tools to help organizations promote fire safety messages throughout October.

Through its annual observance, NFPA aims to reduce fire-related injuries and fatalities by making fire safety an actionable priority year-round.
