National COSH Voices Concern Over NIOSH Restructuring
National COSH urges policymakers to protect NIOSH’s role in safeguarding worker health and safety amid proposed structural changes.

The National Council for Occupational Safety and Health (National COSH) has expressed serious concern over proposed changes to the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), which could reduce staffing and limit the agency’s ability to conduct research, develop safety standards, and support worker training programs.
“NIOSH plays a vital role in protecting worker health and safety,” said Jessica E. Martinez, Executive Director of National COSH. “Changes to its structure must not compromise its mission or the well-being of workers.”
Established in 1970, NIOSH supports occupational safety efforts through research, multilingual outreach, and guidance for high-risk industries. National COSH urges policymakers to prioritize worker protections as decisions about NIOSH’s future unfold.
