2024 NSC Safety Congress & Expo Reveals OSHA's Top 10 Safety Violations

For 14 consecutive years, the same violation tops the list as the most frequently cited.

One of the most-talked-about panel discussions at the NSC Safety Congress & Expo is traditionally the annual unveiling of OSHA’s Top 10 Safety Violations. Although the list is preliminary, it goes a long way toward shedding light on which safety concerns are most widely affecting workers across all industries. Scott Ketcham, director of the directorate of enforcement programs for OSHA, led the session on Tuesday, Sept. 17, announcing OSHA’s top 10 most frequently cited workplace safety standards for fiscal year 2024.

For the 14th consecutive year, Fall Protection sits atop the 2024 edition of the list with 6,307 violations. Hazard Communication (2,888 violations), Ladders (2,573 violations), Respiratory Protection (2,859 violations) and Lockout/Tagout (2,443 violations) rounded out the top five. Of course, understanding these violations and risks is key to creating safer workplaces, something for attendees to bear in mind as they connect and exchange ideas throughout the rest of the 2024 NSC Safety Congress & Expo.
