Safety+ 2024 Special Activities Take Attendees Beyond the Sessions

Golf, a 5K run and a baseball game add fun and camaraderie to the VPPPA’s annual symposium.

The 2024 Safety+ Symposium—hosted by the Voluntary Protection Programs Participants’ Association (VPPPA) from August 25 to August 28 in Aurora, Colorado— offers more than just educational workshops and networking opportunities. This year’s event also includes a range of special activities designed to bring attendees together in a relaxed environment, fostering connections beyond the traditional conference setting.

One of the standout activities is the VPPPA Golf Tournament, scheduled for Sunday, August 25. Participants will hit the links to support the VPPPA scholarship program, which awards four annual $3,500 scholarships to students pursuing degrees or certificates in Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS). The day concludes with an awards luncheon, celebrating achievements while contributing to a worthy cause.

For those looking to start their day with a burst of energy, the 5K Fun Run/Walk on Tuesday, August 27, is the perfect opportunity. Set against the scenic backdrop of the Colorado mountains, this event caters to everyone, from seasoned runners to those who prefer a leisurely walk. Participants are reminded to take precautions due to Aurora’s high elevation, which is approximately 5,400 feet above sea level.

On Wednesday, August 28, the day kicks off with the Labor & Management Open Forum. This panel discussion provides a platform for honest dialogue between labor and management representatives. Then that evening, the symposium wraps up at Coors Field in downtown Denver as attendees watch the Colorado Rockies take on the Miami Marlins. A pregame tailgate will feature snacks and beverages.
