OH&S to Host Fourth Industrial Hygiene Virtual Summit in May

Join OH&S and leading health and safety experts for three free webinars on May 18, 2023.

Occupational Health & Safety is pleased to host the fourth annual Industrial Hygiene Virtual Summit on May 18, 2023.

Join leading health and safety experts for three live presentations starting at 12 p.m. ET. During the sessions, each lasting an hour, attendees will gain important knowledge on topics such as achieving effective worker safety through a Total Worker Health program, assessing program evaluation as part of respiratory protection and understanding how to use direct reading instruments/methods for assessment and control of gas and vapor hazards.

Session 1

The first session, What Does Total Worker Health (TWH) Have to Do with Industrial Hygiene?, featuring speaker Dede Montgomery, MS, CIH, will define TWH and illustrate its application using specific workplace examples. While TWH is not a “one size fits all” recipe, it is critical that industrial hygienists understand its key concepts and functional elements. This session starts at noon ET and runs until 1 p.m. ET.

Montgomery has more than 35 years of experience working as an industrial hygienist and safety and health professional and is the Program Manager for Our Good Health and Well-Being at Legacy Health based in Portland, Oregon.

Session 2

At 2 p.m. ET, tune in for Respiratory Protection: How Good is your Program Evaluation where speaker Steven R. Myers, CFI, will discuss common problems found when conducting program evaluations at various worksites that would include overall effectiveness of your written program, typical deficiencies that are found in most workplaces, improper use and maintenance issues and human behavior.

Myers has worked in the field of Occupational Safety and Health for 38 years. Now Semi-retired, Myers’s focus is to continue teaching OSHA law for the OSHA Training Institute Education Center at Region 1 and Keene State College, where he has taught since 1999.

Session 3

Join OH&S and speaker Dr. John Snawder for Gas Detection: The Role of Direct Reading Instruments/Methods for Emergency Response and Mitigation starting at 4 p.m. ET. This session will describe the types of direct reading instruments and methods (DRI/M) available for use during multiple phases of emergency response.

From 1992 to 2022, Dr. Snawder was at NIOSH as a research toxicologist. He has been a member of local, multi-county and regional HAZMAT teams for more than twenty years, is a Diplomate and former board member of the American Board of Toxicology and serves on several volunteer groups of the American Industrial Hygiene Association.
